Unrepentant – Canada’s Genocide

The documentary Unrepentant – Canada’s Genocide describes the personal story of Reverend Kevin Annett. It is about how he clashed with the United Church over his interest in the events that took place in Canadian schools. A never before told history as seen through the eyes of a Reverend who blew the whistle on his own church. He could not keep silent after he learned of thousands of murders in its Indian Residential Schools.

It is Canada’s darkest secret. It reveals the deliberate extermination of indigenous (Native American) peoples and the theft of their land under the guise of religion.

It is describes the genocide committed by religious leaders of these schools in which hundreds of thousands of Native children were harmed. Many had been locked up after being kidnapped from their families. They were then forced to speak only English, to forget their culture and to profess the Christian religion. Here they suffered physical and sexual violence, electroshock, sterilisation and, in many cases, death.

This film received numerous awards at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival in 2006 and for Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival in March 2007.
